Overview of Partnership

The LUV U Project Announces Partnership with Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health

At its inaugural launch on Thursday, November 5, 2015, The Luv u Project proudly announced its partnership with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHBSPH) to establish a national symposium and advisory board focused on workplace mental health and prevention.

The symposium will host experts in the mental health field, policy makers, and key stakeholders, who, together will build a roadmap to achieve both short and long-term outcome goals.

The cornerstone of the Luv u mission is to build a quantifiable agenda and take responsible actions that advance the field of mental health. To do this effectively, the Project sought to learn as much as possible from the most accomplished minds in the field. Over the preceding months, the Luv u leadership has met with distinguished men and women from academia, the government, and various private industries, as well as other non profit organizations within the mental health spectrum. The Project believes that to accomplish its mission, it needs to work with experts who have experience and credibility and who share its vision and passion. Together with JHBSPH, The Luv u Project will be able to do just that.

Representing JHBSPH—the largest school of public health in the world and the only one with a distinct department of mental health—was M. Daniele Fallin, PhD. Dr. Fallin is the Sylvia and Harold Halpert Professor and Chair of the JHBSPH Department of Mental Health.

Dr. Fallin shared important facts regarding the status of mental health in America, including that one in four adults suffer from some form of behavioral disorder and one in every five children suffer with some form of mental illness. The entire spectrum of mental health is mired with stigmas, cultural and community contexts, and of course, economics. She spoke of The Luv u Project’s mission and her strong belief that changes are possible and obtainable goals can be established, especially through a better understanding of evidenced based data, coupled with quality measures of prevention.

Importantly, she explained that “the majority of people suffering from mental and behavioral issues work, so to efficiently influence people with our prevention strategy, we need to reach out to the workplace.”

She concluded her remarks by promising not only to wish for change, but to work hard with The Luv u Project to make change a reality.

“We are excited with this unique opportunity to partner with extraordinary people like Dr. Fallin and her colleagues at one of the world’s premier institutions, with a proven track record of accomplishments. Together, we will help each other and, more importantly, help others, one step at a time,” said Luv u Project Founder and President, C. Richard Mattingly.
