We continue to be grateful for your kindness and support of The Luv u Project. Our determination to build a lasting memorial to Carolyn’s goodness grows stronger every day.
Since the start of the New Year, we have worked to ensure that The Luv u Project is properly built, in every way.
We are pleased to report that the Internal Revenue Service has approved our application for tax-exempt status: The Luv u Project is officially a 501 (c) (3) public charity. As such, contributions to The Luv u Project are tax-deductible. This status change is obviously very important, as it will allow us to further accelerate our development.
We have also been working to personally reconnect with those whom Carolyn interacted with in her work regarding women’s issues and prison re-entry, particularly in Maryland. Although the recent extreme weather has posed some scheduling and travel challenges, we are encouraged by and most appreciative of the commitment and valuable time of those involved. This process will continue for the next couple of months, and we look forward to listening to and learning about how we can best carry on Carolyn’s legacy as an advocate—not only for women but also for youth athletics and families with sick or troubled relatives, especially children.
Over the last few months, mental health has become one of our top priorities. There are so many questions to be answered: questions we seek answers to on a personal level and questions about how we can address this enormously complex subject in a redefined and focused capacity.
How can we help others avoid the type of tragedy that we, and too many others, have experienced? We will be tireless in determining the best path toward a real and quantifiable agenda that can effectively and proactively answer this question.
We miss Carolyn more each day. Some days are more challenging than others. Saying otherwise would simply be dishonest. If not for our family and friends, this journey would be unfathomable.
Although we can’t acknowledge everyone in this brief message, we want to recognize several gestures that have touched us dearly.
We extend our deepest appreciation to the caring professionals and friends who are providing legal and accounting guidance to us on a pro bono basis.
Likewise, there is a wonderful family based in Ohio whom we shall forever treasure. Our friendship is built on decades of caring, but their luv and immediate support of The Luv u Project helped give us hope at a critical time.
To all of Carolyn’s good friends—your luv, continuing kindness, and support is untiring and invaluable.
And to the many young adults who have played such an important role in the early stages of building The Luv u Project—we are not only grateful but also inspired. Your big hearts and generous gestures are our future.
We look forward to sharing more updates and thanks with you in the coming weeks. In the meantime, please tell more people about The Luv u Project, invite them to join us, and continue to share a link to theluvuproject.org.
