As a component of our “Promises Kept” initiative, we are proud to share the awarding of spring scholarships for two students of Montgomery College, based in Maryland.
“From the outset, we wanted to make several commitments each year that would vividly reflect the luv and spirit that made Carolyn so special.” said Rich Mattingly, Founder and President of The Luv u Project. “We are certain that this support, for young people striving to grow both educationally and emotionally, speaks directly to our mission.”
In order to qualify, candidates met financial need criteria, have an active GPA of 2.5 or higher and have an active interest in mental health services—all verified by independent College officials.
Officials at the school say, “Over the last three years, Montgomery College has seen the number of students increase who identify as having a mental health condition. Currently, there are over 500 students who have identified as struggling with this issue. This number is believed to be an underestimate, as it is common for students not to identify or seek help due to stigma.”
These gifts are made in the memory of our good friend, Mitchell Greenberg, who passed away in September, after a life-long battle with cystic fibrosis. Mitchell loved learning, had a huge heart and was and extraordinary man in so many ways. Through this effort to help others, we remember Mitch with much Luv.
